Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Jose Mourinho as manager..
The Athletic understands Spurs have decided to dispense with Mourinho after just over a season and a half in charge. Tottenham are in seventh in the Premier League and at risk of missing out on a place in the top four
However, following a bright start to this campaign and after reaching the Carabao Cup final, results have been extremely poor since the turn of the year, notably the Europa League exit against Dinamo Zagreb after going to Croatia with a 2-0 lead from the first leg.
Getting back on track with a win at Aston Villa, Spurs have only picked up two points from a possible nine in their last three league games after drawing against Newcastle United and Everton either side of their defeat at home to Manchester United.
With Tottenham now five points adrift of the Champions League places with six league games remaining, Daniel Levy has now made the huge call to part with the man he appointed just under 18 months ago.
A statement on the club website read: “The Club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.
“Ryan Mason will take First Team training today and a further update will follow in due course.”
